API 5L X80 is a high strength carbon steel pipe that meets the API 5L specification. It is commonly used for hydrocarbon transportation in the oil and gas industry, as well as other industries such as water supply, construction and structural applications.
The X80 designation indicates that the pipe has a minimum yield strength of 80,000 psi (550 MPa) and a minimum tensile strength of 95,000 psi (655 MPa). This high strength is achieved through the addition of alloying elements such as manganese, silicon and chromium.
The pipe is manufactured using an electrical resistance welding (ERW) process, in which the edges of flat steel strips are heated and then welded together to form a seam. The pipe is then passed through a series of rolls to give it its final shape and size. The welding process produces a strong, durable joint, and the use of high-strength steel ensures that the pipe can withstand high pressures and stresses.
