Stainless steel rust solution
1. Analysis of the reasons why rust will occur on the surface of
stainless steel
The reason why stainless steel does not rust easily is because stainless steel contains elements such as chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. With these elements in the steel body, the internal molecular structure becomes more symmetrical, and a dense layer of rich material will be produced on the surface of the steel body. The chromium oxide protective film greatly increases the corrosion resistance of the steel body, so it can greatly resist the erosion of external acid-corroding items.
However, if the surface layer of the stainless steel body is damaged or retains some acid, alkali and other metal particles, and is exposed to the air for a long time, some rust will occur. The main reasons for this phenomenon are as follows:
1. Substances containing acids, alkalis, and salts adhere to the surface of
stainless steel (such as alkaline water, lime water splashes from wall decoration, welding slag splash points, grinding slag, etc.), causing local corrosion.
2. Dust or metal particle attachments containing other metal elements are accumulated on the surface of stainless steel. When these attachments encounter water in the air, the two will connect to form a micro-battery, triggering an electrochemical reaction and destroying the surface of stainless steel. The chromium-rich oxide protective film will produce rust marks.
3. Organic juices (such as vegetables, noodle soup, phlegm, hand sweat, etc.) adhere to the surface of stainless steel. In the presence of water and oxygen, they form organic acids. For a long time, the organic acids will corrode the metal surface.
4. In polluted air (such as an atmosphere containing a large amount of sulfides, carbon oxides, and nitrogen oxides), when encountering condensed water, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and acetic acid liquid points will form, causing chemical corrosion.
5. The polishing material during the stainless steel surface treatment process contains iron ions, which are not cleaned thoroughly before leaving the factory and remain on the surface of the product. Rust spots will occur after a long time when exposed to water in the air.
The above phenomena are all localized corrosion on the stainless steel surface. It will not cause deep damage to the stainless steel for a short time. You can use a scouring pad and a small amount of stainless steel cleaning fluid to wipe it clean. Apply a small amount of passivation liquid externally and spread it evenly to protect the stainless steel surface from further damage. Rust appears.
2. Treatment methods for surface floating rust and cleaning precautions
1. When using cleaning fluid to remove contamination and rust, please do a local "test wipe" in advance to confirm the cleaning effect. If the test results are satisfactory, follow this method for comprehensive cleaning. Don't just clean the contaminated and rusted parts, but also clean the surrounding parts as much as possible. If this is not done, the luster on the surface of the stainless steel will be uneven and the appearance will be ugly.
2. After using the cleaning solution, the cleaning solution must be completely rinsed with clean water. Do not allow the solution to remain on the stainless steel surface, otherwise it will cause secondary rust.
3. When using cleaning tools, you must grind and clean them parallel to the stainless steel. If you do circular cleaning, the pollution is not easy to remove and will damage the surface gloss.
4. Although steel cleaning tools or sandpaper can remove serious pollution, they are absolutely prohibited from use because they will damage the stainless steel surface, and the fine iron powder remaining on the stainless steel surface after use is more likely to cause the stainless steel surface to regenerate. rust.
3. Methods to improve the retention of other attachments on the surface of stainless steel:
1. Add a protective film to the surface of the product. After the project installation is completed and the possibility of dust or other attachments in the air is reduced, the protective film will be removed. This method is suitable for regular products (that is, the product surface is a regular plane).
2. The surface of the product is subjected to anti-fingerprint treatment. After the anti-fingerprint treatment, a solid protective film is formed on the surface of the stainless steel product, which can better protect the stainless steel from erosion by external attachments. Products with a width of 1m and a length of 2m can be processed.
