La cornière en acier au carbone-manganèse ASTM A529-50 est largement utilisée dans les applications structurelles. Non seulement il est plus résistant que l'angle en acier A36 commun, mais sa teneur élevée en manganèse rend l'A529-50 très approprié pour la construction de ponts, d'immeubles en acier de grande hauteur, de rivets et de boulons, ainsi que de machines et de fabrication. Un autre point différent par rapport à A36 est que A529-50 contient 0,2% de cuivre qui résistera aux intempéries et à d'autres types de corrosion.
